The capital city of Scotland and the home of the new Scottish parliament, Edinburgh attracts millions of visitors each year to witness its numerous attractions and to wander its streets and view its famous landmarks. Without question, Edinburgh is one of the most beautiful cities in the world offering a city skyline dominated by its famous castle. There is so much to do, whether this is shopping in the Royal Mile or just walking its length from Edinburgh Castle at the top to the Palace of Holyroodhouse and Scottish Parliament at its foot, the whole being surrounded by steep winding streets and mysterious passages.

You can visit some of the best museums in the world in Edinburgh or during your visit take an open topped bus tour to take in the sights of the city; tickets are readily available at the tourist centres in Princes Street or Waverley Bridge. July and August sees the annual Edinburgh Festival season and it is at this, including the International Festival, The Fringe, Book Festival, Film Festival, and the Jazz festival events take place. A major attraction is the Edinburgh Military Tattoo in which participants from all over the world take part and normally feature on television.

Rugby at Murrayfield along with athletics and other sporting events takes place at times during the year and when one of these occasions happens, Edinburgh comes alive with supporters and the bars and restaurants of the city are buzzing. Happily the accommodation is such that there is plenty to choose from and the hotels in the main city area can only be described as first class.

Whilst there is enough within Edinburgh to occupy even the most enquiring mind, it is a wonderful base from which to tour the Lothians area and to discover countryside around the capital. Golf features large in Scotland and the Lothians area does not disappoint the golfer with over 50 courses to choose from. You can visit Rosslyn Chapel made famous in the novel “The Da Vinci Code” or travel through West Lothian to Glasgow, Falkirk, or Stirling, less than an hours drive away from Edinburgh.

Edinburgh has so much to offer, has excellent communications, by air, fast rail, and road, so easy and offering so much that you will want to return again and again.
